A corrected report on the winners at the State Fair.
That Premium Flour.
The first premium at the State Fair for a barrel of white west flour was taken by C. P. Reynolds of Harrisville, Alcona county (by mistake another name was given in Saturday's report). It was raised in that northern county on Mr. Reynold's farm within a mile of the lake shore, and was ground at the Alcona County Mills of Colwell & Brown at Harrisville. This is another striking illustration of the agricultural importance of the newer counties of the lower peninsula, in which large tracts of arable lands still settlement [unsettled?]. Mr. Reynolds is an energetic pioneer, has been for some years secretary of the Alcona county agricultural society, and was active in connection with the northern counties' exhibit at the Fair.--Detroit Post and Tribune, Sept. 22d.
That all parties may receive justice, it is necessary that a little correction of the above item be had. In the first place, the wheat from which said premium flour was made was not grown on Mr. Reynold's farm, but on the farm of R. W. Downer of Harrisville township. It was purchased of Mr. D. by Messrs. Colwell & Brown and ground at their mills in Harrisville by Mr. J. W. Newcomb, their miller, a practical miller of twenty-five years' experience, who, perhaps, is unequalled in the State. Thus it will be observed, Alcona county grows just as good wheat as any county in the State and that Alcona County Mills manufacture therefrom the premium flour of Michigan. Mark that down in your memorandum book: And citizens of Alcona county, never again go "outside" to purchase your flour or get your grinding done!
