Marriage verification of Alfred North and Eliza Hortwick 1/1/1862, in the paper because of a rumor that the couple wasn't married.
They Were Legally Married.
It having been reported about that Alfred and Eliza North, of this township, were never legally married; and to show the fallacy and utter untruthfulness of any and all such reports, Mrs. North has handed the editor of the Review the certificate of their marriage which we copy. It reads as follows:
State of Michigan.
County of Cheboygan.
Township of Duncan.
I do hereby certify that on the first day of January, A. D. 1862, at the house of W. E. Jennings in said county above written, and that Alfred North and Eliza Hortwick, of the town above written, to me personally came and proved by W. E. Jennings, the aforesaid, to be the person described in this certificate, were by me joined together, with their mutual consent, in the bonds of wedlock; and I did first ascertain that the said parties were of sufficient age to consent to the same, which marriage took place in the presence of W. E. Jennings and wife of the aforesaid.
I do hereby certify to the above certificate this first day of January, A. D. 1862.
F. M. Sammons,
Justice of the Peace.
