Freak Accident Fatal
To Young Couple
--------
A truck accident near Council Bluffs, Iowa, last Wednesday evening caused the death of Mr. and Mrs. Stanley Ethell of Middletown, Ohio. Mrs. Ethell was the youngest daughter of Mr. John Mayes and Mrs. Mayes, of Mikado, and she had spent most of her young life in that community.
Mr. and Mrs. Ethell, engaged in the truck hauling business, were enroute to Nebraska with their truck and semi-trailer, loaded with furniture. A break in the mechanism of the truck, caused it to leave the highway, rolling it over. The gas tank ignited and exploded. The semi-trailer became unhitched and was not damaged. The driver lost his life in the accident. Mrs. Ethell received third-degree burns and died in a Council Bluffs hospital Saturday night.
Immediately upon receiving word of the accident, Mr. and Mrs. John Mayes and Mr. and Mrs. Jos. Mayes of Lansing, left for Council Bluffs and were at the bedside of their daughter and sister.
The remains of Mr. Ethell were taken to Middleton, Ohio, by his parents, where burial took place. Mrs. Ethell's body was brought to Mikado for burial.
