Former Hubbard Lake
Man Fatally Injured
--------
Henry C. Olsen, 66, was fatally injured Thursday afternoon while working at the Alpena Hospital where he was employed as assistant maintenance man. He was a resident of Alcona County for many years before moving to Alpena several years ago.
Olsen had been repairing a concrete cap on a flower box at the hospital entrance. The cap had cracked and he was using a caulking gun to close the cracks. In a kneeling position, in forcing the compound into the crack, the gun slipped and he lost his balance, falling head first to the ground, nearly eight feet below. He fractured a hip and four ribs. One rib punctured his lung and caused his death 2 1/2 hours later. He had been employed at the hospital about two years.
Mr. Olsen was born in Alpena on January 3, 1883, the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Elling Olsen. He moved to Spruce with his parents when he was nine years old. His marriage to Rose G. Knechtel took place in Alpena in 1908. They purchased East Bay Inn on Hubbard Lake in 1924 and operated it until 1925. He was active in community affairs in the Hubbard Lake area and was a member of the Alcona County Chamber of Commerce and the Hubbard Lake Sportsmen and Improvement Association.
Surviving are his wife and one sister, Mrs. Frank Larsen of Hubbard Lake.
The body was at the Bannon Funeral Home in Alpena until noon Sunday when it was taken to the Grace Lutheran Church to lie in state until the hour of services at 3:00 p. m. Rev. Mikkel Lono officiated and burial took place in Evergreen Cemetery, Alpena.
